The Motown Rhythm and Blues Career Preparation program at Victoria High School is building a state of the art recording studio “Studio 65, The BJ Cook Educational Recording Institute”.

The program at Victoria High School now in its 17th year, was meant to fulfill a need for career preparation courses mandated by the Provincial Government of British Columbia. It was originally designed to combine the four mainstream elements of Canadian high school music programs (the Concert Band, Concert Choir, the Jazz Band and Dance) using an R&B, pop, and rock based format and repertoire. In keeping with shifts in the music industry the program under the guidance and fundraising leadership of Ms. Cook, is expanding to meet the technology needs of a changing music industry.

For those students who want to become involved in or seek a career in the music industry, Ms. Cooks’ and School District 61’s vision of having an all encompassing program to meet those needs is an exciting step forward for the Victoria High School based program. Students will study recording arts technology, promotions, marketing, and will be introduced to the organizational structure of the music business. Program instruction will come from within the school as well as from industry professionals. In keeping with the Career Preparation mandate, students will be placed in the industry for on the job training.

BJ Cook and School District 61 are looking for your support in making this exciting educational venture a reality for students here in Victoria. With significant donations from Mr. David Foster and Ms. Barbara Hager of Arrow Productions they are well on their way to achieving the goal.

Please contact BJ Cook to offer your financial support for this incredibly exciting project.
